This week, we’re talking about something we use 7,000 times a day and almost never stop to think about.
Our words.
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.”
— Proverbs 18:21 (ESV)The Bible doesn’t mess around here. Not drama and motivation. Not shade and compliments. Death. And life. Those are the powerful words. And Jesus made it even more personal in Matthew 12: “Your mouth speaks what your heart is full of.” Which means every word that comes out of you is a fruit report. It’s showing people what’s actually growing on your tree.
This week, we’re doing the hard work of looking at our words, not just the big ones, but the daily 7,000. The text we almost sent. The thing we said to our wife when we were really mad at our boss. The “I’m proud of you” we keep meaning to say to our kid, but never do.
The flesh wants to speak first and ask forgiveness later. The Spirit wants to pause, filter, and give life.
Before You Fire Off That Response — Ask Yourself:
- Is this building up or tearing down?
- Is this for them or for me?
- Does this bring life or does this just make me feel better?
- Would I be okay with God keeping receipts on this one?
God is keeping receipts. This week, let’s make sure ours are worth reading.
